There is a reason Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has become one of the fastest growing sport and fitness activity in the world. It's because Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is not only an effective self-defense system, but also a safe and fun ground-based martial art.

Developed in Brazil, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools are opening up at a pretty quick rate around the world, but not all schools are born the same. At OCTA BJJ, the classes are designed to teach your child self-defense without removing the fun from the process.

But we are NOT a day care or a gym. Our role is to work together with families to raise STRONG KIDS.

Kids with confidence and discipline are not only capable of protecting themselves, they also quickly become role models for their families and friends. They become good listeners, hard workers, respectful citizens and, most importantly, learn how to deal with failure.

And how do we do it?

We introduce Brazilian Jiu-jitsu to your kids based on our 8 core values (the number is not a coincidence): Honor, Loyalty, Discipline, Justice, Self-control, Honesty, Courage and Benevolence. At OCTA BJJ, the kids learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques and life skills. And we are committed to that.

These (life) skills learned at Octa BJJ will help create a confident and responsible child who will excel in school and in life.

"SAFETY-FIRST" TRAINING ENVIRONMENT

We take it very seriously and all our instructors are CPR, Emergency and Standard First Aid certified. We also run background checks for all our staff. Our mats are cleaned daily and our entire training room is covered with padding.

COMPETING IS ALWAYS OPTIONAL

Although competition is an excellent learning tool for kids, it's very important to know if and when they are ready to take on the challenge. When your child is old enough and has trained long enough, tournaments a positive experience for them.

But we really want our students to be excited about competing and use it as a fun learning experience, so it’s imperative not to pressure them into it and even more important not to put needless pressure on them to perform well.

Stop Bullying

Learning how and when to manage bullying is key. We work with children teaching skills that deliver great results at home, in school and in the community. Martial arts in general are great to build confidence and self-control, but Brazilian Jiu-Jitu adds an important component to it, the ability to control your opponent without hurting them, and this is a huge plus.

Our Octa BJJ programs are designed to equip your children with the skills needed to navigate real-life situations and prevent bulling. Also, kids with great confidence do not engage in bullying other kids.

OUR PROGRESSIVE PROGRAMS

Little Octopus (4 to 6 year old)

This program is all about introducing our youngest students to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Here we teach essential skills to our students, as many of them are engaging in sport activities for the first time. Classes are 45 minutes long and consist of basic movements and positions.

At this age, students are not expected to learn or execute BJJ movements, but rather use their balance, leverage, and momentum. Students who learn these skills are well-prepared to deal with potential real life situations. Their new acquired athletic skill-set are also transferrable to other sports and activities.

Kids BJJ (7 to 9 year old)

The students under this program begin to focus on the detailed aspects of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In addition to learning the essential skills, kids also learn how to escape from dominant positions, a few submissions and work with multiple possible self-defense scenarios.

At this age, kids start to realize how Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills come together and how the learned skills can help them to navigate real-life bullying situations. They are also exposed to sport's aspects and full collaboration situations.

Classes are also 45 minutes long and consist of drills and simulations using Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques.

Pre-teens (9 to 13 year old)

This program is very similar to our adult programs and mixes self-defense and sport BJJ techniques. In this program the students are encouraged to build responsibility and trust by participating in technical sparring. They are also introduced to more advanced techniques and scenarios that will demand an strategic approach when using the basic concepts.

Classes are also 45 minutes long and consist of drills, simulations and technical sparring using Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques.
